this last week i replaced my turbo!!! it had an internal leak that was causing the truck to ues oil an blow white smoke. also the pedistal was cracked so i had to get a new one of those.
my question is how common of a problem is this? has this happened to anyone? my rig only has 60000 miles on it. any imput would be great.

I havn't read alot about it here. If your turbo lubrication is somehow restricted, or stopped...you will have bearing seal failure eventually. But it hasn't been reported as a big issue as far as I know.
As far as a cracked pedistal...that may have been the real issue......it not feeding the turbo enough lubrication. Hope this helps.

I agree fully, and also put in a plug for synthetic oil as well. It does a much better job of keeping the turbo bearing clean and lubed.
Mine was replaced TWICE with under 50,000 miles.
I was told by dealer there is a seal internally, that does fail
I had oil pouring through intercooler tubes...........
