I have a '94 xtra cab with a problem with passenger side door electric window. It seems as the gear must be stripped in the riser as the window won't rise on it's own just clicks-clicks-clicks....help the window and it'll move...sometimes it'll lower itself slipping a couple inches. I know theres a motor and a quarter round gear in there....but that's where my knowing stops and my dumbnest begins. Anybody know what it takes to DIY a replacement and any hints as to where to purchase repair parts CHEAP, your favorite place? This is the best Ford I've ever owned and it's like a best-friend. Know what I mean?
The CHEAP(est) place for the regulator is a Ford dealer. As if removing a used(UP) one isn't bad enough, you don't want it anyway. That is, even if a junkyard would sell it to you without making you buy the whole door. As for the rivets and removal, simply use a hammer and a punch to knock out the steel center, then a use 3/8" drill to remove the remaining aluminum portion. Have fun (and waste lots of time) if you try to drill the rivet out before driving out that steel center core.

Electriclife is an aftermarket manufacturer of power window kits. I put one of thier kits in my Ranger and it bolts right into the factory location. They said all the power window stuff they have as far as motors and regulators are an exact copy of the factory. When i had to drill out the rivets i had a hell of a time. I smack the center with a punch and a hammer but the inner shell of the door is so flimsy it wanted to cave it in. I used a smaller bit and some wire cutters, trust me it was the only way. I was able to get only one of the centers out and the rivet just spun in the hole when i tryed to drill it. I was happy that the kit i put in has built in studs and fastened with nuts.
