The bellhousings are the same, but there was a heavy duty version that went into larger trucks (including UPS and FedEx trucks). It had a forged crank and some other upgrades, but I'm not entirely sure what they were.
If you're restoring the truck just to drive around, the standard version will be fine, and a LOT easier to find. The HD ones are very tough to find these days. You could always get one built for you, though.
I believe you're right ... it seems like I might have read that somewhere.........How would one identify an engine like that? Is it in the serial number or is there some sort of ID number on the engine that would identify it as an "HD" version? I did plan to have to rebuild one that I find for this truck.....Those engines seem to be everywhere...carb and EFI.... I suppose obtaining a forged crank wouldn't be all that hard to find either .... I was also thinking about just buying a long block too.
