Please assist....I am thinking about buying a 1986-160K F250xl. How can I be sure its fine??? how does one check for cavitation. Is this a good year model. Any one know about the fuel- mileage??? Thanks

what do you think is cavitating? fuel pump, oilpump??
if you know a good mechanic, pay him/her to look it over.
don't let mileage scare you. lots' of these trucks go into 200,000 mile category and run great.

All you can do (without tearing the engine down) is check the radiator for the proper amount of anti-cavitation additive (FW-16). I get mine through Diesel Injection Service. MUCH cheaper than Ford.
