Confusing tire sizes
I see stuff like 285/75 R16 up to 315/75 R16 and such, then I see 31, 33, 35, etc.
HUH???
Straight out, I have original 265/75 R16 and I want to go up.
I do NOT want a lift on my '03 PSD but want max tire size.
What will work?
I am interested in BFG mud terrains.
Max tire without lift 295-75-r16. Check out this tire calculator.
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html 31,32,33 equals overall height of tire.
Is it half of the R16?
I want to use the same rims and I know some tires specify wider rims.
I looked at the calculator but it doesn't tell me what the stock rims will accept.
Comparison with 295's on the above link:
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
265/75-16 7.8in 15.8in 31.6in 99.4in 637 0.0% (stock)
295/75-16 8.7in 16.7in 33.4in 105.0in 603 5.6%
Will the 295's fit on my rim?
Any wider tires?
However, lots of guys run wider tires than what the manufacturer mandates. I ran Goodyear 305's for 40,000 miles on 7" rims. They won't wear correctly but other than that I never had a problem.
