Mac Tools

Yesterday at work the Mac Tool guy came around. Randy (head mechanic) bought some pliers and I asked for a catalogue. You never see the catalogue anywhere and it's pretty much a phone book. Do you guys have any Mac or Snap-On tools?

Only one Snap-On 3/4 inch wrench that was left behind. The rest are Canadian Tire and Sears that I buy when the 1/2 price sales are on. Still have a Sk set 1/2 inch drive that dad had from the 50`s. Also some Princess Auto and CP power tools.

I have some MAC just because the guy comes up from P.A. and is a nice guy. Things like a reversing snap ring pliers, a nice tire pressure guage, a scraper.........and more. They have some good stuff, but so do all the other major manufactures. I tell my apprentices they can do just as good with Westward or Craftsman.

I watch for the crappy tire complete set sales, seems like they have one every month or so, they usually sell them for half price. last year for 100 bucks I picked up the 1/2, 3/8, 1/4 set, ratchets, stubby and deep sockets. Told my girlfriend Ineeded it to fix her car that was broke at the time.

Must have been a cbey or was it a Monte Carlo, bet it wasn`t a Ford!? Anybody ever buy West Ward tools? They seem too expensive for most of their line for me. Sometimes I misplace/lose tools or they grow legs.

I used to buy from sears the craftsman tools, but I find going downtown to buy too much of an inconveneince. Also a pain when replacing ratchets that break. They give those rebuild kits for you to do at home. JUst a pain. Half the time you go back with a broken socket or wrench, it never fails that they do not have them in stock.
I now buy Westward tools. If a ratchet goes they just give me another ratchet, not some rebuild kits with tiny bearings.
I find their prices are not bad. THey are more expensive than Crappy tire, but cheaper than sears and they always seem to have their stock up for replacements. Also no downtown parking to contend with.

Hard to beat Canadian Tire when they have a tool sale and I don`t mind Preston Crossing as much as before. Still like the old Canadian Tire location the best, used to go 2/3 times a week instead of once every month or two.

I got a 3/8 metric/standard westward kit as an award in auto body school, I still have it and it works great. I even used it to change a tire once...I had to jump up and down on the handle, but it broke the lugs free without stripping them and breaking the ratchet.

Couple years back i was in the city with my work tools (different from home tools) and happened to be at House of Tools. Talking with the fellow there about the chrome coming off my Gray wrenches so he said to bring them in. The set was about 15 years old and he said the replacements would be a different style but they would replace all the chipped wreches and sockets i had. I have always been impressed with Gray tools.
When i was in highschool I was awarded a $1200 set of Gray tools. Then to have them replace most of my wrenches and sockets 15 years later they get bonus points for that service.

Although it's not Mac Tools. I was on the Canadian Tire web site and I saw that they had a 32 pc Wrench Set for $69.95 from $149.95. But they were sold out and I saw they had this Socket Set for the same price from $209. So I bought the socket set.

I'm gonna try to find a matching 1/4 drive ratchet. Those things do come in handy, as it's better than using an adaptor and a 3/8 ratchet.
