I have a 72 F-350. The fuel guage never gets above 5/8, even with the tank spilling over. I have tried different fuel sending units that I had laying around and they give me the same reading on the guage. I noticed that my temp and oil guage run on the low side. Could this be a guage voltage regulator problem?
If so is there an easy way to check it? Where is it located? I would appreciate any suggestions on this one.
If it is like my F100, the regulator is located behind the instrument panel at the rear of the gauges. I think it regulates down to 8 volts, but someone might correct me on this. Hope this helps. Billemc
It sure sounds like a regulator problem, the voltage isn't enough to pull the needle over. The regulator is the relatively big box like thing with the 9 volt battery like plug in, if I recall correctly.
This is located on the back of the gauge cluster and snaps on the printed circuit board like a 9 volt battery as fellro86 described. I think there is an article in the articles/specs section on this site about setting it up to work better, but I haven't done a search for it.
