351W w/ mazda 5-speed?

Is this the right forum? Or "Engine Swap"?

I've read some posts about the Mazda tranny,
and tend to agree with the fact it has a bad rap. While definitely not as beefy as the ZF, mine has never given me much trouble, and I have given it pure hell. Which leads to this:

That shiny new crate motor (built 302) is toast....(see gallery for original)

My question is: Will I need anything from the '97
F-250 351W I found (front-end EXACTLY like my '95
Bronco) to mate to the Mazda tranny, i.e. flywheel
etc.? Or better put, Will it mate at all? This motor is the absolute closest match I could hope to find, even has the same speed density
set-up.. (i.e. my computer w/custom chip & harness?)
Donor f-250 is automatic.

At least I can salvage my nice heads, cam and .030
over pistons! Obviously, money is a bit tight, so the ZF will have to come later..
Those of you who may remember, I went the crate route back in October, and was satisfied, but a series of bad events, leading to the upper intake being pulled twice, sent this beautiful engine south fast.
I guess I'm paying for my learning... It's taking me awhile to get the nerve up and post about this..

Bellhousings the same.

Use the 351W flywheel, not the 302 flywheel.

Use the mazda/302 clutch, though you might have to have the 351W drilled. I am not sure offhand if all the bolts lineup.

So you're taking a 97 F-250 351 and putting it in your 95 bronco. I am assuming you have a fully dressed 351 (meaning all the parts necessary to install it), including 351 flywheel If the 351 was in a 97, it's
flywheel type is determined by the transmission it had on it. Did that truck have a 5 spd or automatic? If it had the 5 spd, it was a ZF, and not the mazda. The clutch disc between the mazda and ZF are different,
although the flywheels are interchangeable. Since the clutch discs are different, they imprint different wear patterns in the flywheel. You'll need to get it re-surfaced anyway, so when you do, show the guy the clutch disc you're going to be using, so he can cut the flywheel to accomodate that size disc.

Any 351 from 87-96 would of worked. Almost all the 351s were speed density. Although, just to make sure you know, the 351 and 302 speed density computers are not interchangeable (IE can't run 302 computer on 351
motor). It would run the motor, but not very well and you'd need the 351 computer. The wiring harness is fine to keep original, just need the 351 computer and correct flywheel.

10-4 gentlemen:
I have a brand new Centerforce II in the Mazda as well.
The 351 is bone stock w/ 75K. I plan to yank it, tear it apart, prep & bore it .030 over (LOCALLY with the current points leader in the Lowe's Motor Speedway crash series as my NEW mechanic) and use the Speed Pro Hyper pistons, RV cam, and Edelbrock heads with JBA headers from the 302. For $800 bucks, I figure the roller block, y-pipe, and fuel injection/intakes are worth it...(Use my new Accel 21ln injectors)
Maybe I can steal the computer. The yard guy really doesn't seem to give a flip.
Wonder if the expensive Speed Density custom burned chip will work on the new computer?

It depends, Ford used many different computers with very slight changes. Compair the computer codes. You could physically get the chip in there but I'm not sure if it would work, give it a try I guess...
