I saw a odd looking newer (2004?) gmc 2500 today. It had a buldge in the bed, looked like a small dually fender, but it had single rear wheels. Anybody seen one of theses? What is the deal? It wasn't a step side and the rear axle looked a little wider. Sorry for contaminating the site with a non Ford question
i remember hearin somethin a while back about gm comming out with a super wide? it was supposed to have a wide rear axle and no wheel wells inside he bed
it was a concept like 4 years ago, maybe they decided to go with it.
The truck in question, as others had idenified, has Delphi's Quadrasteer package on it. It was available on 3/4 ton trucks and Suburbans as an option starting out at $5000 but later dropping to about $2000 and only came on high level trim models. Development was done on GM trucks as well as Ford SuperDutys but GM had a two year exclusive on it and when Ford seen the dismal sales figures...
The 2005 model is the last year for the Quadrasteer option as GM lost money on every one and is dropping it. Very few people bought it and most of those who did PEP'ed their trucks or got a deep discount using another program. The option also added about 400 pounds to the truck reducing fuel mileage and payload.
