Help with 78 Emissions

I have a 78 f-250 I have a 351 W in it with absolutely no emissions crap on it. They told me I had to have an egr valve just because it failed with carbon monoxide and they staired at my motor for 20 minutes, just to come to that conclusion. I have a edelbrock performer intake not equipped for anything and theyre telling me I have to have it.does anyone have any suggestions. I have a 72 or so model engine and does anybody know if it even had an egr factory and how to tell, please help me beat the battle with these no passin' bunch of clowns Thankyou kindly for any help.

There is a product @ auto parts places to pour in tank to help pass emmissions test.if it passes maybe they wont open your hood.

Check your local/state laws. Every place has different requirements.

Help with 78 Emissions

The 78's had EGR valves. The EGR is used to reduce oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) emissions. You can also try leaning out the idle fuel mix to reduce HC emissions. If all else fails, you may have to put your old manifold, EGR, and carb back on to pass emissions.

Thanks for using FTE!

Help with 78 Emissions

i have a 78 with a 400 and an edelbrock performer w/600 cfm carb . i live in st. louis and w have tight emission laws. i got mine to pass by hooking it to a 5 gas analyzer and leaning it out to below specs. dont just lean it out because if you make it too lean you may actually increase emissions, find the sweet spot. as for your lack of egr, in st louis we have inspection stations that are ran by pimply faced 16 year olds, so if you should mount the egr somewhere on the manifold to one of the spare bolt holes and run a tube to nowhere they may never know the better
