should i do it?

I have a 1962 galaxie 2dr xl ht all original my husband restored the body back to original (welded in new sheetmetal where there was rust) and primered w/ epoxy primer( hok kp21 cf) now where wonderin wheter to rebuild the 352 or go to a 460 which will give us plenty of street performance. Its not to be raced just enjoyed as a cruiser or car show participant. What say you guys? thanks maddie

Stay original, the car will be worth more that way.

If you're building for trophys, stock generally pulls more prizes and such.

If you don't care about originality and want more power for driving enjoyment, do the 460.

I've restored many cars over the years, and I personally have no problem improving and upgrading things. Certain cars I try to restore their factory appearance, but since the 460 is a Ford engine, it can be installed fairly factory looking even if the car didn't come with it.

But then again i don't fix cars up for trophies, merely to drive them and enjoy my hard work.

are you sure its not a 390? they look identical and both say 352 on the block. if it is you could build it for very strong street performance.

I personally would stay as close to original as possible on that particular car since your not going to race it, and is mainly for show. Now with that said you could also build a different FE engine and no one the wiser. The 352 can be made to perform but a 390 will perform better, and a 428 even better than that, plus it could be dressed up with some original alum valve covers etc and not really be to far from original.
edit. to farther this the galaxie was offered with 5 different V8s in 1962 the 292, 352, 390, 406, and the 406-6v with a tripower carb setup, now if you could find that tripower setup it would look like a original deal (although don't try, and sell it that way at a show or if you ever sell it you'll get caught) but nothing wrong with the clone idea. and I think a 62 galaxie with a 406 tripower (or a 390 with that setup since you can't tell the engines apart externally) would make a really cool cruiser plus would show great.
