steering column removal
i am trying to remove my steering column. i have unbolted it already but how do you remove the rod that goes to the tranny? and at the end of the column there is the arm the transmission rod attaches to, do i need to remove this i can't seem to get it to fit through the hole in the firewall like it is.

Automatic? That rod is a "press fit", by that I mean it is quite hard to get it to pop out of the column. I usually use 2 screwdrivers top and bottom side of it and work it back and forth to get it to pop out.
EDIT:: do yourself a favor and put a couple bolts back in it and tighten it up to the firewall, it will make it easier to work on.

got it , thanks. it is held in by a rubber grommet .the steering colum is ruined. the lower shaft has a 1/4'' wear groove in it. the upper bearing is missing all the *****. so i'm off to the boneyard to find one.
