I tried to repair a small chip in my whindshield last night with disasterous results. It shattered. Now I need a new windshield, but I'm not sure were to start looking. the normal auto glas places say it's too old. Where would I look, and what is involved in installing one?
I just bought a brand new LOF brand glass for mine last year. They are available new. Tell your glass guy to look it up. The number on mine says DW 602, I'm not sure if that is an engineering number or the actual part number.
In my opinion, the old glass is better. My 63 had a Carlite windshield and my 62 had a FoMoCo glass. This new LOF brand chips very easily. I had the original glass in my truck for the 25 years that I've owned it and when I painted the dash, I figured I'd replace the old sandblasted glass. It only took two days to aquire a big chip right in the driver's view.
I don't like this new glass, you could chip it with a dirty look.
I just got a new one last year for my 1960, and got it for free, don't know what the laws are in Texas, but in Calif they have to replace it with no deductible..its some safety law, if possible tell them it happened on the hiway, something hit it......LOL
yes, same here, comprehensive....but its cheap compared to the other liability, covers fire, theft, etc..which I was glad I had when I lost a 65 mustang gt due to theft
About year ago had to replace windshield in 65. Shop initially said they were finding it difficult locating but eventually came up with one. In meantime, searched around, seems majority of Ford parts suppliers have discontinued them. Did find John's F100, out of Anaheim, Ca. had them, not sure if still carry them. May want to give them a call if having difficulty. (714)563-3100. Also wanted to replace rear window at same time but neither of us were able to locate. Cleaned the old one and installed. Found one recently in Pic n Pull salvage yard $20, now have a spare. Good luck
The front is still currently available in the LOF brand. The rear is not available new from anyone that I could find. If you come across a good non-scratched rear glass, grab it. Sooner or later, somebody is going to want one.
There is a glass company in Paduca, KY that has new glass for our old Fords. This company also has special tinted glass and they cut windshields for chopped trucks. They come to the Ford Nationals every year. Nice Folks, sorry I cant find his card. Try a google search.
thanks clarkw123 for the offer, but I have had it replaced already. It was just a matter of calling enough Glass replacement companies untill I found someone who knew where to look.
