Does anyone have a clue what I did wrong??? (Other than the fact I rebuilt my own transmission.) I rebuilt my 1994 E4OD with a master rebuild kit, shift kit and a new torque converter. I did the updates that were provided, reassembled the transmission, everything fell with in the guide lines for tolerances. I preloaded the torque converter with 1.5 quarts of Mercon, and then installed the transmission into the truck.
Then I started adding transmission fluid and when I got to the 16th quart the fluid it started running out the vent tube on the top of the transmission. I checked the dip stick and it was about 1 inch above the hot mark. The next thing I did was fired up the truck in neutral thinking I needed to move the fluid to fill the torque converter and remove any air pockets, load up the values, etc. I put the transmission in reverse , I could feel it slightly engage, then I put it in 3rd gear and I could feel it slightly engage, so I put it back into neutral, I let 4 to 5 quarts flow out, then I turned off the engine, checked the dip stick and there was no fluid on the dip stick. I started the truck back up and still the fluid comes running out of the vent tube. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:PersonName w:st="on">Ron</st1:PersonName>
With some help from a Transmission Tech we finely figured out what I did wrong!!! I made a simple and stupid mistake. I put a gasket in between the pump halves instead of putting it between the pump and the transmission housing. I pulled the transmission back out and pulled the pump, split the pump in half, removed the gasket, realigned the pump, installed the gasket into the housing where it’s suppose to be, installed the pump and torque the bolts back up, installed the transmission back into the truck and now it’s a daily driver like it was before.
