99 Eddie Bauer Grille Replacement
I was lucky in that the only damage was to the silver grille itself. What I have since learned in surfing the Ford parts sites is that the replacement part for the grille actually contains the grille plus the whole plastic nose of the vehicle above the bumper, to include the frame around the grille plus the frames around the headlamps.
So here's my questions:
1. How do I replace the stinking grille? The factory repair manual doesn't show how, alldatadiy.com does not list it (as far as I can find). Any help on how to do this would be greatly appreciated - and save me from a lot of head scratching.
2. Has anybody had any luck removing the sliver grille part from the center and replacing only that? Based on the broken pieces and the way it is attached, it looks like the type of thing that will be either very simple or impossible. I plan to experiment on the old grille but thought I'd query your collective knowledge for tips as well - I'd hate like heck to mess us the new, $300 grille...
Thanks for any help,
Rob
You have to remove the plastic cover that bridges the radiator support and the top of the grille/shell assembly (unscrews), then the headlight assemblys (slide up and slightly tip back the black "L" shaped metal tabs behind the headlights, slide the headlights forward, uncouple the bulb wiring plugs from the bulb). Then remove the parking lights. Look for bolts that hold the grille/shell assembly to the body, including in the area formerly covered by the parking lights, remove them. You will find plastic fasteners that hold the lower edge of the grille/shell to seals located just above the top of the bumper. The fasteners have to be pried off (carefully, unless you can find new replacements). The grille/shell can now be removed, unless my memory has turned to crap and I forgot a step.
