Lance, in theory, pulling the rocker arms will get rid of your present noise, but it'll cause you more problems than you want to deal with. First, you'll have a very noticeable miss. Second, there's no way to 'kill fuel' to that cylinder without dealing with some serious pressure spikes that will cause harm to the injection pump.
Out of curiousity, how did your dad position his wrench? I didn't quite understand that. Pushing DOWN on the pushrod end of the rocker arm checks for collapsed lifters. But I didn't understand how he got the wrench UNDER the rocker arm. (inquiring minds wanna know....)
k dave he stuck the wrench in under the fuel line going to the filter from the #1 injector then pushed down on the end of the wrench closest to the injection pump making the end under the rocker arm go up which got rid of the noise, until he quit pushing on it and it slowly came back. maybe u can understand how he did it now. got to remember im a texan i put it short and sweet lol jk but thanks for the help though just going to trade it like it is and let the other guy fix it tired of it, this pickup and motor only has 191k miles on it too for a 1985 model too
hello mine did the same thing it was the valve guides grab the top og the valve spring and see if you can wiggle it back and forth if you can that is the problem the compression is leaking past the guides i had $300+ in gaskets and $300 for a used set of heads and she runs like new again
thought about getting another ford but this time being a powerstroke if possible unless yall know anyone that wants to buy this pickup from me right now. got 6 new tires on it, new glowplugs, one new injector, new water pump, new power steering lines, new brakes all the way around including springs, new seals, new bearing on the back, new u joints, new belts, new power steering pump, rebuilt radiator still needs work, new battery, cd stereo, just an XL model though, grill guard goes with the pickup, simulators go with it too, might sell the chrome headache rack, toolbox, fuel tank and side boxs if someone wants any othe the things i just listed ill sell them as for the pickup it will be sold whole not part of it. the least i can take for it right now would be 1800 to 2000, paid 4250 for it not a year ago and only put 23k miles on it and got almost 2 grand it in already but if someone wants to buy it and then fix it, dont matter to me just to get it out of my hair and get myself a newer pickup dodge or ford diesel is all i care lol and thanks Dave so its a lifter slop lol thats something new to me lol later everyone and thanks so much Lance
no rust anywhere on it at all and no 4x4 either just 2 wd crew cab inside is in great shape as for the body scratches from tree limbs and a few places the paint is coming off from and a few dings and dents not anything major either and im down southeast of Abilene alittle town called Rising Star Texas if that helps any. Lance
Sounds like the cab I would love to have for a total restore. Up here in WV the salt has most of the old trucks in bad shape.
My 86 is in good shape for a 20 year old truck in this part of the country, but I need to do doors and front fenders this year. They are about shot.
To bad it is so far from here, though. Maybe next time.
well guess ill be leaving yall on this 94 and lower might check back in every now and then but traded that 85 ford 1 ton for a 97 Ford F250 white Ext. Cab Powerstroke 5 spd with alittle over 200k miles on it used to be a Pool Services Pickup at one time, but she runs really good, just got to get all my goodies on it and then stacks and so on ill get pictures up soon of it. shes got 4:10 gears so yeah runs high on RPMs though lol but got 1850 for the 85 Ford paid 500 down, making 350 payments on it , out right price was 6250 but its a great pickup so far just got to get some A arm bushings and body bushings so i quit hearing a pop pop pop noise as i go over bumps or inclines lol well thank yall for all the help yall gave me though Lance
