I'm was getting around 14.5 mpg with 3.73. I haven't driven enough distance since swapping to 4.56 gears to calc the new mileage. The power is a LOT better, and I'm hoping my mileage should increase a bit. It also may get better as I've only got 6000 miles on it so far.
I think it looks tacky. Kinda like Frankenstein. Bolt/rivet on fender flares? Traction bars on a 4x4? Blue? Nice tires, But I don't care for the wheels. Too much room between the tire and upper portion of the wheel well. Stainless door handle trim? Cutting sheet metal on a brand new truck that cost 7 times as much as my dad's first house? Just doesn't sound intellegent to me. Too tall to be useful as a truck. But then again I'm not 6' 5".
But it's your truck. Do to it what you feel suits you. That's the wonderous thing about our two nations. They let us do that!
I'm o.k. with that. I did ask. Here's my retort. The traction bars are to control axle wrap. Something that occurs when you try to put 400 HP and 800lbs of torque to the ground with 38" rubber. The only thing I couldn't do with this truck is haul a fifth wheel, which I don't own. I like bumper pulls. As for too much room between the tire and fender I agree. If Toyo would have had the 40" available in a 20" rim I would have gone that way. I went with cut outs to keep the tires out of the sheet metal when hitting bumps. I didn't want to have to ***** foot over bumps and through corners with my big useless truck. Nothing annoys me more than hearing tires rub on a lifted vehicle(when driving around town). My wife is only 5'7" and she has no problems "using" the truck.
Oh yeah, I sell performance automotive parts, so I need something that stands out and is visible, thats why I went with blue, and I happen to like blue!
Nice rig. I can't bring myself to saw the sheet metal (I used to work in a body shop) so I used the pocket style flares. Now on the Fabtech color of blue....what in the world? The first thing I did with my Fabtech parts was blast and powder coat to my choice. All my trucks have been black but the Dark Grey is growing on me.
Now I am not saying the blue is bad on your rig as it does stand out. For me I would look at powder coatings that might simulate a more brushed aluminum/chrome finish....
I really love most all Super Duties but this one liiks like a Nissan Frontier on Steroids. I understand your reason for your mods and I hope you really enjoy the truck. I could not bring myself to lift or put fender flares on my rig....
obxtuna
Your not getting old. I started lifting vehicles in the early 70's.....so maybe I never grew up....and I still can't drive anything A-Typical.
With the after-market parts available now I have gone stale thinking of how to do something. Lazy? Yep I just order it instead of fabricating to some degree.
There are a few companies making the "door handle bling". Mine are made by Putco and believe it or not they simply stick on. You can not tell that they are are a stick on product. There fairly cheap too. You can probably pick up four door handles and the tailgate handle for around 70 US. I'll be swapping to the full billet door handles soon, but only because someone tried to break in and broke my factory passenger front doorhandle. The full billet door handles sell on SD headquarters for 239.00/pair. Ouch.
The stick ons come in more of a mirrored finish, but I think I've seen them in a brushed finish. They're easy to install. Maybe half an hour if you prep everything properly.
