My son has a 73 Crew Cab. We have noted that the front and back seats are interchangable. We swapped them trying to improve his driving position which has a distinctive port list. Anyhow, are the Crew Cab seats the same as the regular cab seats? If they are, maybe we can find a better one (or two) at the wrecking yards in Tucson or Phoenix. Thanks.

I swapped the mechanism that allows the the seat to fold forward for access to the back of the cab in a regular cab pickup('78). I put it on the back seat of my crewcab so I could access the tank. I would bet that ford would not bother changing their tooling for the seats for something with such low production numbers(crewcab). The hinge was even on the crewcab seats, just not the latch. If it was my money, I wouldn't hesitate to look for another bench seat. Also I dont know what you mean by a "distinctive port list", but if additional height is required I would recommend taking the seat to the upholster shop. My fathers truck had an additional 1.5 inches of foam installed because of it sagging. The results were much better visibility of the road and I have no problems with headroom at 6'2". The only way that clearence is effected is with the steering wheel. I wouldn't use the larger steering wheels on the older trucks and those without power steering.
If it's like my truck then they probably mean the seat vinyl is worn through and the foam has started to disintegrate with the worst part being closest to the door. This causes you to feel like you are leaning into the door.
Have you considered the seats at <<http://www.beedzncomputers.com/truck/seats/seats.html>>...? Maybe they would be a nice answer to your dilema. They adjust back and forth, and they recline in case you need a quick nap. You can even order them with 6-way electric seat adjusters for your nice crew-cab...
Thanks for the kudos, Jor!....I'm afriad the seats are a little more expensive than what you would find in a "junk-yard", as they are all leather and include a mounting kit for this exact model that allows everything to be installed in about an hour.....you can probably get what you need (all new) for under $1,000).
