i have a 69 f250 and about 1 year ago me and my dad put in new front breaks, the truck the sat until about november then i started driving it, the breaks work quite well up until about a month ago they were acting like they were out of fluid and i had to pump the breaks just to get some pressure to slow down, well i refilled the master cylinder cause it was quite low and now its like i have no front breaks even connected and if i pump the breaks the back tires lock up, whats going on????????????/
Likely the seals in the wheel cylinders deteriorated while your truck sat. After some use, they failed and coated the pads/shoes with brake fluid, which is why the fluid level was down in the master cylinder. Sorry to say, but you will likely have to rebuild the front brakes again.<O</O
If the fluid level was down in both chambers of the master cylinder, you will likely have the same problem in the rear.<O</O
To avoid this in the future, make sure to change all of the brake fluid, including a complete flush of the system. I recommend using synthetic brake fluid, as it does not absorb moisture out of the air like normal brake fluid. At all costs avoid silicone(purple) brake fluid. Silicone fluid is not compatible with standard fluid like synthetic is, and will result in a soft pedal no matter how many times you bleed the system.<O</O
Don, I suspect that you have a leaking wheel cylinder. Two things that I would do, first look at the inside of all the wheels to see if one is wet (from leaking wheel cyl.) second bleed the brakes again to make sure there is no air in the system. If the fluid goes down again, you have a leak in the system that will need to be fixed.
