Hello I am trying to I dentify the Transmission I have on this used 2000 Ford F150 XLT. It has a 4.6 engine. the book says there are two different transmisions. I have looked all around the transmission to no avail. Any help out there.
Nope nothing on the Door sticker like that, The only ting I can fine is on the dip stick it says to use Mercon V. which would indicate a 4r70w tranny. I guess I will be very concerned now because it that is what is in the truck then I used the wrong fluid 1000 miles ago. and it is throughly mixed by now. So if that is the case what damage is being done to the tranny now.
how did you ad the wrong fluid if the dipstick says to use mercon v? the tranny code is on the tag on the door it will not say a 4r70w it it will give a code what is the code?
I did not pay attention to the dip stick, Dummy I know. ok I'm back here are a few codes on the door sticker, tr=U, r=5, spr=6N, Axle=H9, Does that help?
The transmission code is on the door sticker. It should be code "U" = 4r70w as stated above
Like I said TR (transmission) code "U" is the 4r70w.
I would take that truck to a tranny shop and have the tranny flushed/ replace filter fill it up with the correct fluid and hope for the best.
you will ruin the torque converter or clutches, but how much of the wrong fluid did you use? if its no more than a quart you will be fine, but you still need to have it flushed and filled with mercon v . mercon v has special friction modifiers to help with the torque converter shudder.
