Unhappy 93 fuel pump location ?

Does the year have three pumps like 87? I have looked all over the frame rail for a hi preasure pump.

Tank pumps run constanly when key is turned, instead of running for 2 seconds.
Both tanks do the same thing.
Engine will start but runs like crap.
Looking for hi preasure pump to test voltage.

My '93 5.0 has two fuel pumps. One in each tank.

try resting the computer by disconnecting battery for at least an hour.

check fuel relay in main power box under hood.

both pumps do not usually fail at the same time.

someone on this forum said it is almost never just a fuel filter that stops vehicle from running.

If it gets plugged bad enough, it will. A plugged filter can cause low pressure, though. I know that from experience.

'89 and older has the inline high pressure pump on the frame rail.

'90 and newer has the in-tank pumps.

I would look first at the fuel pump relay to make sure it is not stuck, keeping the circuit live. Also try pulling codes from the computer to see if there are any that might help narrow down the problem. You can pull codes yourself; follow the instructions here: http://www.thorssell.net/hbook/eectest.html

i agree with epncu2006 on the fuel pump relay, but also the wires below the relay sometimes corrode so i would add that as something to look at.

OK, I changed the filter and that didn't help. I'll check the relay swich and try to read codes.

Thanks again.

Thanks Quik, I just noticed a steady clicking coming from the distributor cap while the ignition is on. I was looking at the relay when I herd the sound.
The engine won't start anymore.

I'm waiting for a ride to purchase a code reader.

on your truck you do not need code reader only obd-2 does. do search for how to read codes for obd-1
