Computing engine displacement size for the 3 motors
All,
I have the 5.4L V-8. I've been told that computes to 330ci of displacement. So if I divide 330 by 5.4 I get 61.1111. Am I calculating correctly then by multiplying 61.1111 X 6.8 (for the V-10) = 415ci ? And for the PSD: 61.1111 X 6.0 = 366ci ? Are these the actual displacement numbers for the 3 motors?
Not sure on the 6.0 but it's right for the V10, remember it doesn't always hold true. think about the 350,351, and the 360. they were the 5.7, 5.8 and 5.9 which come out to 348, 354, and 360 (using your numbers) so you can see that its just and approximation. technically there are 61.024 cubic inches per liter which will again through things off. they would have to name the motors like 5.4125 in order for the cubic inches to come out right.
yea, and brings back the old argument that the 302 was 4.9488, not a 5.0 .... the liters are just rounded approximations. the 6 liter is a 366, you'll not the VT366 emblems on internation trucks.
Hey, thanks ALL !!! I have heard how manufacturers kind of "round off" (either up or down). My '01 Z-28 was actually a 347ci, but they called it the 350 (or 5.7L).
I was just curious to know the displacement numbers of the 3 Ford motors, so THANKS everyone!!
