Well I've been saving up for some new speakers and got some Eclipse co-ax's and I love them, but I've had this same problem with all the speakers I get. There isn't really much bass they put out. Is it because like in the door panel, there's all that air behind it and it's not the proper air volume? In my mom's Mistubishi Montero Sport, she has stock speakers, but they put out a lot of bass, but they're also in pod type things down on the lower door and don't have so much free air. If this is the case, what could I do to contain some air behind the door panels so they don't get so much free air. It's like sitting a subwoofer out on a table and having it play, there's no bass just noise. But you put it in a box and you can feel it.
BII's are not made to help your stereo sound good. IT's a fact of life. Let's start off.... have you replaced the factory radio with a newer one? I can tell you right now that the eclipse coax's won't give you any noticeable bass response. I had a set in my first Bronco and running it just off the radio was very, very, very disapointing. It improved with my adding an amp but still didn't have the oomph I was looking for. How far into this do you want to go? Amp? Sub? more speakers? Radio? What all do you have? Tell all and I can help you get something that sounds good
Well I know it's not what it's going to be. I've been planning this out for a while, and I visit these waters frequently, I'm just wanting a little more oomph right now. I'm going to be fiberglassing pods for 5 1/4" component eclipses, might go with focal on that one though. Then they will have their own 2 channel amp, and my coaxials will have a 4 channel, and I'm ditching the subs I have now and going with JL (im thinking 2 12"s, maybe one though..) then will get either a class D monoblock or maybe another 2 channel. Then for the HU I'm going with Eclipse CD8454, or maybe an 8455..
But.. Right now I have a Blaupunkt CD51 or something like that... it's 26 wRMS output per channel, and sound good, but I can't wait to get my hands on the eclipse.
You got some good plans going on there. It doesn't look like your going to try to scrimp by. Thats great.
How much bass do you want? I mean do you just want a more full sound that has some kick to it? Or do you bone jarring, stomach turning bass? If the good full sound, one sub would do you good maybe a W7 that will leave you options open as to how much sound you want. Mate that W7 to one of Jl mono amps. Or you could go with the JL's 5 channel amp run it all off of that. Due to costs I have used 5 channels for the past couple of stereo's and there is plenty of sound all around.
Well I'm going to totally upgrade electrical system and go with a JL wiring kit too and I'm going to get a 200 amp alternator too. I'm not skimping on stuff.. just needing it to sound good as I go. I have bone jarring bass as it is, I can be heard about a mile away.. from indoors. But it's SPL not SQ which is basically what I'm going for. The reason I'm adding the kick panels to add in the components and hoping to get my mids from that. Also the amps I'll be using will most likely be JL. What do you guys think about Hifonics? I've been looking at them too.
I'm running an older(2001-2002) model 700.5. It's not too bad, mine has the problem that Hifonics had for a while it just stops if it pulls to much power. Turn the radio off and back on and it's fine again. Can be a nuisance, but it is infrequent. As I said it is a nuisance but I do like the amp, the only I could ask for is better control on the frequencies Hifonics equalizer/crossover does leave a bit to be desired.
When I redo my system next year, I am looking at putting in 2 jl 13w7's, keeping my Infinity perfect kappas in the front doors and kappa 63I's in the rear door. Not sure on the brand of amp just yet. Kicker, JL, JBL are the brands I am looking at right now.
I heard they fixed the issues they were having. But haven't gotten hold of any of there new stuff yet. From what I heard it is good stuff. When I first started messing with stereos about 16 years ago Hifonics was the Stuff along with Phoenix Gold, Precision Power, and Fosgate.
Unfortunately me too. I loved PG. For the price it was hard to beat and it had such a sweet sound. A few brands have been sent overseas to be mass produced and the quality has suffered greatly. One of the best out there use to be a company calles Us amps. They had amps with ungodly amounts of power.
They're still out there. I've contacted them and they constantly ask me when I want to buy, because I told them I probably would. I talk to a lady that works there ans she's really nice. They used to have really crappy looking stuff that sounds really good, now they're getting into things and making nice cases and stuff. I forgot all about them.. I need to go check them out again.. last time I checked they even had flash on their site.
