sub destortion at low volume

I just put a new sterio system in my 04' SD i hav a allpine cdeck wth 2 cadence .6.5" mids and tweters in the doors. Amped.
The subwoofer is a 12" cadence with a 1500watt amp the sub is a 4ohm sub and the amp is a 2 ohm.
The dealer whom i bought it from told me it would work if i use one channel and leave the other (2channel amp)
The problem is i connected everything up and it sounds awsome but only if the vlume is turned up. When the volums down the submakes a wird noise like a rattling. So after a day of this the head unit burnt up so i took it back and it needs to be fixed. I had another allpine cd sitting around so i connected it up without the sub and the subs amp connected and no problem so far.

Loose ground? Two channel amp and only using one....... Why not just bridge te two channels to the sub. You might want to check with the dealer to see if that is what he meant about using one channel. I had a issue with an Alpine deck in my buddie's truck a while back still not sure what happened as he hasn't had it fixed yet. But we did have a connection issue with the amp, a few internal fuses got shorted out and had to replaced. So I'm thinking that somehow it sent feedback to the radio and shorted out. Then again my friends truck was a Chebbie. That could be the reason for all the problems.

Woah. Are you saying that you have a 2 channel amp and you are running one of the full range channels to your sub? And your running the other full range channel to both of the 6.5" cadence speakers, in a bridged or parallel setup?

no i have a 2channel amp for the sub and a 2 channel sub for the mids/tweeters.
The guy at the place i bought the stuff from said i can use one of the channels on the 2 channel amp for the sub(he had no mono amps in stock and i got this cheeper) and i can use the other side if i want to expand. If i were to bridge the sub it would be too much power to the sub(amp puts out way more power than what the sub can handle).

Another quetion is the amp is a 2ohm and the sub is a 4ohm. In the past ive always matched them but the guy at the store(owner) said this way will work fine.

I played around with having the amp bridged for the sub and on one channel. the sub sounded the same each time. But when the head unit, CD blew up it was in bridged mode.

1st off
check all you wiring
power\ground cables - rca cables - speaker wires

The ohms or load your amp runs at is directly a result of the speakers
connencted to it
If you have 1 - 4ohm single VC woofer connected to
the amp then the amp is running at four ohms

also I have never in all my days had an amp that was too 'powerfull'
for a job-- look in your owners manual and find how to connect
the sub to your amp in bridged mode and turn the gain down if needed

also make sure you are using a low pass x-over-- either out of the head unit
or in the amp

also
a bad amp ground can cause the amp to use the rca cable as a ground
and potentially burn out a head unit

Find a bolt into the body, scrape off all the paint underneath, use a star lockwasher, and maybe some silicone grease to prevent corrosion. That should give a solid ground.

I'd find a new shop to do business with. Either that or you misunderstood these people. Like brianas said, whatever set-up you have, as far as ohms, that's what the amp will "work" into. There's no such thing as a 2 ohm amp. It may be a 2 ohm stable amp, which is completely different. Is this the only place around to buy equipment? Couldn't you wait to get a mono amp? Or at least buy subs and an amp that are compatible? This sounds to me like the beginnings of a "problem" system. There will always be something giving trouble for some reason that could have been prevented with a little patience and planning. Sorry, but I like to tell it like it is. I've seen this kind of stuff happen for 30 plus years.
