With all of this talk of the sparkplugs blowing out of our beloved rides. How do you avoid having a blow out? I just changed my plugs and coils last night because mud and water got the best of the coils.
What can we do to avoid this? Is torqing to 14in/lb, and applying antisieze our only defense? I didnt torque mine, just finger tightend and then tightend with my ratchet with minimal effort. Am I safe? Are We Safe? Why hasnt ford addressed this problem?
Sorry for the rant, Just scared to blow one out! Sucks I have to drive my truck in fear!
The most important thing is to only remove the spark plugs on a cold engine. If the plug feels tight when you unscrew it spray some PB Blaster or carb spray in the hole and work the plug in and out slowly until it comes out. If it's tight don't force it. Take your time and keep working it. I put a dab of copper anti-sieze on the threads and torgue the plugs to 14 lbs. I think 98 was the worst year for the plug problem. I don't think there was enough threads in the head. The heads were redesigned and doesn't appear to be a problem from 2000 on. JMO
