Oh my word. What has the world come to...

See if a computer is ever needed most of us just buy laptops. Laptops are nice because #1 they are portable to pretty much anywhere, #2 they can do almost as much as a desktop can, and #3 they are light and easy to use.

I see what you've done and albeit interesting, its frigin weird man. I see you have money, but can I ask you why you didn't just buy a decent laptop? It would save so much money and plus people can't steal your laptop if its with you. People could break into that truck and take all of that.

I am just trying to figure out what the benefits of this would be.... Internet? Storage? Um convienence? If it were me and that box was there it would be scratched to hell in a year. I just want to know what you were going for in this install.

Nice work tho.

I do have a nice laptop from work. In fact, for a living I sell laptops and mounts for Police vehicles (Pansonic Toughbooks). I still use a seat mount and my laptop when I need to be "in the office" while on the road.

As for the carputer... well I wanted navigation, DVD player, and access to all of my music. Sure I could goto Best Buy and get an off the shelf Pioneer Navigation system for $2000, and an Ipod for my music. BUT in a year when its "old" technology I am out of luck.

I have exactly $660 tied up in this unit and it does everything I want and so much more. Plus, its 100% customizable and upgradable.

Yes the case is a bit big but at the moment its under my back seat and I almost never have anyone back there. The next step is to get a mini-itx case, which is smaller than most car amps. See the link below.

So my question is, why spend $2000 for a nav system? Too me, that seems silly when this is doable!

That is so awesome, I love it. What do you use as a mouse? Or did I not see it.. All of that for only $660? Can you tell me how much you spent on each part please.. thanks.

I use the touchscreen- no mouse required! Everything in Frodoplayer and Iguidance is setup for easy touchscreen. I do keep a cheap USB mouse in the glovebox in case I need to play around in control panal or something... other people are using wireless presentation remotes or USB touchpads. I even saw one guy custom mount a rollerball into his shifter!

As far as cost, I did this on a tight budget. Alot of the hardware I already had, the rest came off ebay in bits and pieces. You can buy everything you need from www.mp3car.com, but expect to pay about $1400 for the same setup.

I want to do something like that in my Bronco II, maybe with that amp style PC though. So how does your rig hook up to internet?

I use the wifi where available. With the roof antenna, its amazing how many access points I can see! As long as I am not moving, I can almost always find one.

While in motion, I have a data cable connected to my sprint cell phone. It keeps the phone charged and dials in when needed!

yeah come to think about it its alright i guess. I'd have it if i had a new truck. But that's almost as cool as dvd players in cars and trucks...and what for? I can just go downstairs and watch a 52" big screen. lol. 7" or 52"....couch vs..seat...lol. 2 each his own.

The main reason I would want it, is for MP3, and to give it a more custom look. I'm currently building a custom console, and after that a custom dash is in store.

Yeah, but can your 52" big screen go on road trips and keep the wife quiet?
