Power Locks and Power Window Problems
Power Locks and Power Window Problems
Ive got a few problems with my 89 f150 xlt. The power locks and windows were working fine then it seemed like they gradually got worse. The drivers window is still fully functional but the passenger window is not. You can tell that if the window is up and you hit the up button sometimes the window will try to raise but nothing happens when you try to lower it. This is from either the driver or passenger switch. Now the door locks are odd as well. It seems to be more responsive from the passenger side and if you hold it in the lock position for awhile then cycle it a few times the doors will lock but the unlock almost never works and the lock is very hard to get working. Normally i would just attribute the power lock motors or window motor to going bad but for them both to happen at the same time just seemed odd. I check the driver switch and all the buttons are fully operational. Ive never had power window motors or power lock motors go bad gradually and never both doors at once. The self resetting fuses are still in good order and everything is fine with the wiring in the drivers door as far as the lock and drivers window is concerned. Do you guys think I just need to replace the passenger window motor and both lock motors or is there some common problem i looked over.

ive tested for voltage on the drivers side switches. obviously the drivers window works. getting voltage at the pass window and door lock switch(on drivers side). I tested the drivers switches because everything should work from the drivers side. The power lock and pass window switch both had proper continuity. Would body ground be a problem for the switches if the drivers window works fine but not the passenger from the same switches since they feed off the same power/ground?, but no i havent cleaned the body ground.
