Help!

I have a 92 F150, 300CI 6cyl, E4OD transmission that I got from my father. I am about to turn it over to my son but need to fix some transmission problems. After the trans fluid gets hot, it "chatters" when trying to upshift out of overdrive. It will just shudder unless I manually switch off the OD. I have changed the fluid and filter with no result on the problem. Is there any solution? If there isn't, which I'm afraid their is not, I need to change the transmission. Next question. Will a C6 easily replace the E4OD? What will I need to make the swap? C6's are a LOT cheaper than E4OD's! Thanks for the help in advance.

I have the same exact truck, that trans is a good one, I would like to think it is OK.
You are stating the truck shutters when upshifting( I believe the term is downshifting) from OD, ..do you mean the truck stays stuck in OD and is lugging the engine RPM's as you slow down???

Before you start thinking about spending big money, here are some possible less expensive things to look at:
1.Pull the engines' EECIV computer diagnostic codes, see fordfuelinjection.com

2. Is the OD light working when you hit the button? If so, has there been any activity from the light while driving? Sometimes the OD on/off light flashes to indicate a problem

3 Clean the IAC sensor, it is on top of the throttle body and carbon can choke it.

4 Possible bad TPS sensor, near IAC on throttle body.

5 Manual lever position sensor (MLPS) on the side of the tranny may be defective, it is a big variable resistor, the MLPS tells the computer what gear you have selected.

Everything i mentioned here has been talked about many times here at this website, search the terms Overdrive, E4OD, MLPS, IAC ,TPS, for lots more info.
