sonnax kit

just wondering is it necessary to remove the accumulator valve body when installing the sonnax kit, or can it be done without removal? the reason is i cannot find the retaining clip they speak of with the valve body still on. thanks.

BTW, this is a 1997 F350 E40D

my truck doesn't have a drain plug in the pan, but i did drain the pan. do i need to drain any fluid from the valve body (it seems like there is a lot of fluid coming out from the sides of the valve body when i begin to unbolt it) am i going to get drenched in fluid or is this normal?

there will be fluid in the valve body. the sonnax mod is pretty easy but it is very messy, you will have trans fluid all over the place. you also will need an "inch pound" torque wrench to properly reinstall the valve body. if i remember right it is 80-100 inch lbs on the valve body bolts

After you re-install the valve body, pan, and new fluid. Start the truck and (foot on brake) be sure to run the gear selector through each gear several times while sitting in the driveway/garage. This will run fluid back through each channel and valve before hitting the road.
