I have aquestion about the mounting of the pcm on my 98 f-150. I took the kick panel off my truck and found out that my pcm has allready been replaced. The part that holds it in the bracket is missing. I took it out to get the numbers off of it.While looking at it I noticed that inside the plug it had the words "This side up", which is opposite to how it was mounted. My questions are, does the way it is mounted matter because the plug only goes in one way and would it not being mounted securlly cause it to tear up, it was all the way out of the mounting bracket . PLEASE ANY HELP WILL BE APPRIECCIATED!!
The only damage that I could see would either come from vibration and something coming loose internally or possibly the moving around caused a static charge and could fry it.
What is wrong with it?
It's better for any electronics, no matter how hardened, to be tightened down...
Either visit the dealer and see if you can order it, get it from a junkyard or make one yourself, I'd say...
All that moving around is not going to help the wires going into the connector. Is there enough slack in the wires to correct the position?
Sometimes, a piece of electronics will have a heat sink in a certain location that they want mounted facing the body, so that the body will "sink" the heat... even a little bit can make a difference. And being loose, that's not happening.
That "this side up" label, it's INSIDE the plug? Describe that more, please.
