Pops when lugged down
90 F250, 351, E40d, 4x4. I put in a fresh reman motor about a year ago. New cap, rotor and wires since this problem started. only one code shows that has always been there, egr solenoid problem. Changed that part a long time ago but never shook the code. Set the timing close to 15 because it ran so much better than 10, but now when it lugs down, like as soon as it drops into drive and I step down on it, it starts popping. It almost seems worse when it's just warming up, but will do it all the time. runs great otherwise. Higher rpm's it pulls strong. Any ideas?

Really, to me, sounds like they did not set the lines at the timing gears!! I never cared for long blocks or short blocks, one reason, it's a hurry hurry relay line, and they do now always , place and are notorious for undersizing one crank bearing at the shaft, an fo standard with the better parts of the crank. I unfortunately have seen these engines torn down and jsu shook my head, like the chevy 350 88 chevy half ton, had a 40 over piston in two places and 20 over in the other 6 cylinders and get this, the 30 over had 0.38 piston to cylinder wall clearnace, i would never buy one ever, seeing is believing....I would rather but a used engine wwith 89 k miles on it, with a wrecked car and build it up, And how do you know that engine was toated before it was turned in a core, or has a gouge where a rod hit the inside of the block, i've seen these things, fix what you have, even if you have a cracked block, use silicone treat job, that treatment last 150k or over,,,Janet
