Got the power front disc brakes working in my '55 F100, so now I'm ready to swap in the 351W. Pulled out the six and 3-speed, removed the front motor mount from the frame and removed the clutch pedal and associated linkage.
Looks like the center crossmember, the one the bellhousing mounts hook to, is too high for the C6 to sit right. Is that correct? Hard to tell when you just eyeball it.
My plan is to use a tubular crossmember for the front motor mounts and the C6 crossmember mount from Mid-Fiftys. With those in can I safely remove the stock center crossmember? Of course the passenger side front brake line will have to be re-routed.
BTW, I'm running stock front suspension.
Thanks, John

John, most who have done your swap have removed the crossmember. I plan on also doing the 351W to mine (56 with straight axle) but am going to try and modify the original trans/bellhousing crossmember to clear the new trans. I am using the CPP tubular engine crossmember but I'm sure it is the same as the one you are using.
Most popular opinon will be that it will have to be taken out.
Glad to see the truck is coming along. Any problems with the disc swap? Which brake booster did you go with? Good luck with the engine swap. I believe the stock crossmember should come out when you install the new one. At least that's what I'm doing for my 390/C6 combo. Put some pics in your gallery when you get it dropped in.
Ron - I'm using the complete CPP package on the front axle I got from you. I bought the parts thru Mid-Fiftys, but it all came in CPP boxes. The booster is under the floor, it's a small one. Not sure how difficult it will be to top up the master cylinder as it moved rear-ward about 6 inches and is now under the front edge of the seat.
I had to cut out my original crossmember also because it was too high. I used No-Limit's offset crossmember so that my engine would clear the Volare steering box.
I used a TCI tubular engien crossmember to mount my engine and I made my own tranny crossmember. My tranny cleared the stock crossmember. My engine position put the engine crossmember right over the tie rod. I cut it and welded a piece higher up.
