Yet another trans temp gauge question
Greetings all –
I am looking into installing a temp gauge for my 4R100 (’04 E350, V-10). A search here shows that there are two recommended places to install the temp probe – either on the line from the trans to the cooler, or in something referred to as the “test port” on the trans case.
Auto Meter sells both a manifold to install the gauge in-line, as well as various sized NPT adaptors to install it with. Presumably, one of these works in the test port.

1. Does anybody know what size the hard line is (Auto Meter sells both a 3/8” OD as well as a 5/16” OD adaptor?
2. Does anybody know what size the test port is?

If it were me, I would plumb it inline from the trans to the cooler. Presumably this will be the hottest fluid. Also, I'm not sure of your cooling line size, but you could just measure your existing lines that are under there right now.
