won't idle when cold

won't idle when cold

2000 explorer won't idle when cold. takes about 10 mlnutes to warm up before normal idle. code reader shows no codes and no check engine light problem. any help on this is appreciated.

Check / clean /reaplce the IAC. This is the typical cause of this problem. There is a great sticky at the top of the message board that covers what you need to do.

Your vehicle should have two temperature sensors - one for your temperature guage and the other for the computer. If your guage is working correctly the second sensor could be suspect - e.g. telling the computer that the engine is warm when it is not.

There should be a procedure on how to test the sensor in these threads - different ohm readings when hot or cold. Try cleaning/testing your IAC first and you may choose to clean/test your TPS at the same time.

I cleaned the IAC sensor and it idles beautifully. Many thanks to Ranger russ and 99xplr. Dubbz
