Hi, I have been having a smoking problem with my truck since 600 miles...Finally after 8 months (now 7200 miles)my dealer found a bad EGR valve (stuck in the open position ) at idle causing the smoking problem..Well, that problem is now fixed...But i'm seeing other problems also now...First off the bad egr never sent a problem code so i'm assuming that i can have other sensor problems without codes also....Here's what happening....I still have a very strong diesel smell from the exhaust pipe at idle and my mileage is 12 around town and 14 highway...Well thats from the lie-o meter onboard...I seemed to get better mileage with the bad egr....Also i recently tried several air intakes like air-raid and afe stage 2..Both of these thru a mass air sensor codes and a check engine lights...4 of my friends have these 2005 ford f350 trucks with 6.0l diesel..They all have the same silverline asna cat back exhaust as i do and they also have air intakes. They have no problems at all and no check engine lights and codes... Is it possible i have other bad or very senisitive senors not throwing codes but causing a overly rich mixture...I read that there is an update on the EBP sensor that tells the ecu how much fuel to send among other things..I brought to update to my ford dealer and they said they cannot change a part that doesn't show defective...well my egr didn't show defective but caused a huge smoking problem.....I'm out of answers here and don't know what to do...Maybe i should get rid of the truck....
This is my second dealer...The original one where i bought my truck thought i was crazy....at least this one got a rep from ford and they hooked up a monitoring system to read the sensors while the truck was smoking..thats how the bad egr valve was found.
