Hey guys, a rock came up and busted the vent window (alkso cracked the windshield...)
I have a parts truck I am going to get the parts from, but I am wondering do I need to remove the frame it is in, or can I leave it alone, and just replace the galss as it sits??
Is it possible to remove the glass from the frame without screwing it up, or should I replace the window with frame?
It looks to be riveted in place with a large rivet, and I don't have the means to rivet it back in place it I drill it out???
I have had a vent window glass replaced, but the assembly was out of the truck. You need to hit the frame with a rubber malet in order to seat the glass in the frame. The glass sits in a rubber or cork gasket. Just change the frame with the spare you have.
I would grind the rivet head off theres plenty of room to through bolt it with a 1/4 bolt. I had the doors apart so many times on these trucks I just think its easier than fooling with that double sided sealing tape they use in the channel but the real question is your window regulator also riveted in because that is a real pain to bolt back in. some bolt in some rivet in if you have access to parts truck with bolt a bolt in wing window and regulator. I have tach welded nuts on the back of the ones that rivet in to replace them. Just my opinion but I didn't like foolin with the tape it was hard getting the window to line up corectly.
