need help!!

I have a 2000 4.6 and once in a while when i step on the gas pedal it will hesitate and at times not even go for about a second or two and then all of a sudden it kicks in and Im on my way. any ideas of what this problem could be. Any advice would be apprciated. Thanks

spark plugs. air filter. fuel filter.

That's my uneducated guess....

check the plugs for carbon tracking along the insulators. I had the same problem with my 99 4.6. I put ford's WDS scan tool on it and did a cylinder balance test. I found it dropping 2 cyls. (1&3 on mine but they may differ) on accel. But I also have plug wires. If i'm not mistaken, ford started using individual coils for 2000. Either way, check that out, Depending on you mileage, plugs would probably be a good idea anyway. If there is tracking, replace your wires, or the coils on the problem cylinders
