I have a 1999 Ford F-150 4x4 SuperCab, yeah it is lifted, here is my situation, I am in the process of trying to removce the pitman arm, but the tool doesn't fit. (I used the loaner from autozone) The crossmember for the frame is in the way. There is no way to get this tool on their. (The lift is not the problem, this is a ford welded in part) Has anyone had this problem? How did you get around it? Did you have to completely remove the steering box in order to get access to remove the pitman arm?
You don't have to completely remove the steering box but you do have to remove the 3 bolts that hold it to the frame and move it enough to get the puller in.
My only problem on that was the twisting force that is applied to the gear box as you tighten down the pitman arm remover, I was afraid I may do damage to the gear box.
