My 2003 F250sd is up at the local LineX place now. Guy called me and said they have been unable to remove all the body bolts for the bed. He said there are a few that are rusted in, and they are the ones near the gas tank so they can't heat them.
They are going to spray over them. I understand that this could be a problem later "God forbid" I ever need body work done, but other than that anyone see an issue?
just had a permatech sprayed in mine, and talking with the installer, i ended up spraying over the bolts, despite what has been said here. I figured i'll hope to not have to remove the bed. it looks fine to me either way. He sprayed mine so thick, that you almost cant see the bolts anymore, so thats pretty cool ... this stuff has got to be close to 1/2 inch thick. so far the 16' 6x6's i was draging in and out and the huge wood burner insert i had to drag out of the truck myself hasnt damaged it.
so far, real happy with the investment. i was going to get line-x, but the closes place was almost an hour drive, so i went with the place 5 minutes down the road.
I've heard from one dealer that you can cut around the box w/ a utility knife and then just pull up the disc of material off of the bolt. Don't know how true it is, but that's what he said. FWIW, I had mine Line-X'd on Tue and they took out the bolts before spraying.
line-x over the bolts. Very easy to remove the line-x with a utility knife or a 7/8 holesaw bit with mandrell removed. Had to remove mine for hitch. Holesaw takes about a minute for all 8 bolts.
Somebody stole my truck and ran over something, denting the fender (the bed) behind the rear wheel. They welded a whole new quarter panel (the whole side of the bed) onto the truck. I guess they had to cut the line-x out of that side near the seam. I don't know what they did, but I can't tell they did it (until it rusts out).
Anyway, if they can take a whole side of a bed out and replace it (and spray over the new piece), I think spraying over the bolts is fine.
Got the truck back, and I have to say I am in love with the way it looks. They sprayed over the bolts, and it looks fine. Hopfully these Line-X liners are as good as they say!
