I'm looking for a set of piston connecting rods to replace the stock rods in my '88 351w. I want a stock replacement, I bent the rods when I swamped the engine. I found a guy selling some that he says are for a "351 cj,cleveland". The casting number is #DOAEA. Does anyone know if these will work in my engine?
351W con rod length: 5.956 /crank journal dia: 2.311
351C con rod length: 5.78 /crank journal dia: 2.311
So the crank journal diameter is the same, but the length is different. They could be made to work with special pistons, but it's probably not worth the trouble when 351W rods are so numerous. Since the Cleveland rods are shorter, you wouldn't be gaining anything. I'd shoot an email to RTM above and ask him about those rods or look for some others. -TD
Thanks for the specs. I've contacted RTM about the rods he has. I'm not in the mood to fuss with the piston heads.. Just want to get in and fix what I broke.
That's the best way to go, then you're not adapting and changing things, and stumbling across combinations that won't work unless you're prepared to throw a lot of money at it. Just as long as you keep all such negotiations off the boards and handle it privately, we're good to go! I take it you didn't do any other damage when you hydraulic'd the rods? -TD
Well.. more damage was done, just not to the engine. Tranny clutch material is slowly falling apart, I blew a lot of sensors and had to tear out the carpet and clean everything
The rods didn't even bend that much. I lost compresssion (150 down to 120psi), so I have a definite power loss, but other than that the engine seems fine. I've put 7k miles on it since my oopsy. I'm replacing the rods, rings, and throwing in a different cam while I'm at it.
