I took a trip out to the dessert last weekend (it was around 100 degres) and i got home and parked my truck in it's normal spot. The next morning i found a spot in the drivway that was about 2-2.5 inches in diameter that was from gear lube dripping fron the rear yoke. The shield on the gas tank and the underside of the bed had oilly residue on them as well from it flinging onto them. I took some brake cleaner and sprayed off the rear end and wiped it clean. I've driven about 50-60 miles since then and it hasnt leaked again. The fluid is full and had just been changed about 4,000 miles ago, i just think its weird that one day i have a semi serious leak and the next, it's gone. I have an extended warranty with a $50 deductable, so as soon as it does it again i'll take it in to get it fixed. Has anyone else had a problem like this? if so does the seal just completely let go at somepoint and blow out all the fluid out while going down the freeway?
checked it out and it's not. I just drove 300 miles up to the northern part of CA and at least half the trip it was around 90-95 degrees and it still hasnt leaked again. I'll be checking it again after i drive home in a couple days.
What year and model? - I have 2003 FX Level 2 - front and rear pinion leaks and rear axle seals - all leaking at 45,000mi. No real good reason - Dealer repaired for about $USD450.
