I've got a 89 7.3 250 thats haven some problems. i just replaced all glow plugs, GP relay, GP module and quite a few things in the fuel system. truck ran great for a while but now its a no go. the truck cranks great and is sending fuel everywhere its supposed to but cant get it to fire up.i assume it might be electric since the fuel system seems to be in check but i dont know a whole lot about electric. hopefully someone has a better idea of whats wrong than me.
How long does the WTS (wait to start light) stay on (cold engine) should be 7-10 sec then start engine, clicking or cycling of the controller could last 20 secs after start (warm weather).
What brand of GPs did you install, Beru/Motorcraft only I hope from Azone $10 ea.....
The IP should click when the power is turned on/off, there is a wire close to the front LH which is the FSS fuel shutoff solenoid if you remove.replace power on engine off there should be a click as the solenoid/ metering valve opens and closes.
T - does the truck give a fit when cold or all the time? if it is just when cold, you might a cold engine sensor bad and that wont let the glow plugs work. Try using the block heater for a few hours in the morning and see if that helps starting. If it starts easier that way, it is the glow plug problem.
If as 7 states, try working the key switch while someone listens to the injection pump click on and off. if you are bleeding one of the injectors, the fuel should be plentiful, not a little bit. that is a sign of the injection pump working properly. hope this helps you out. get back to us with your findings.
