Adding to the old thread... I was born in 1983, my current truck was born in 1979. My old truck (RIP) was born in 70. 3 out of the 6 operational vehicles I've owned are older than me... 75 Dart, 83 olds, 85 T-Bird, 87 Lincoln, 70 F-250, 79-F250. All the non-ops I've had are Ford trucks, and 1 International Harvester.

'76 F100 is primary driver(I've had it for 5 months and my son loves it. It'll be his in 14 yrs.). '68 F250 is my project truck (It's been in the family since Mar '83 and never left anyone sittin' on the side of the road). I am a '61 base model with a lot of hard fun miles on me.

And I didn't even like Fords back then. :-)

I was 26 when my 78 F250 was built. I recall not liking Ford trucks because of the skinny steering wheel and the way the steering felt over all. It didn't seem to be firm enough, not sure how to articulate that.

I worked building high voltage distribution systems in those days and all our company had was Fords, some of them 78s. Who knows, the one I have now I might have driven back then. LOL I don't even think about turning this one in but very rarely. If I had to drive it as a commuter I probably would because of fuel prices. I've gotten spoiled by commuting on my BMW bike and getting 50 mpg.

Every time I use this old rig I'm glad to have it. A few weeks ago it hauled a bed full of iron items and half a bed of firewood and towed a boat back home over 300 miles. Ran like a top the whole way. That's not the first time. Tomorrow morning I'm hooking a 16' equipment hauler full of construction trash to it and heading forr the dump. Probably a good 2 tons on the trailer and it's not light itself, 12K lb rated.

Funny, didn't like em, now can't live without them.

beemers

Beemer Nut - almost all of them but I'm partial to the R. I have a 60 pre-/2 in the garage to restore ad my commuter is a 2004 R1150R. I had a 99 that I put 75000 miles on and had to sell it. Wish I still had it though, great machine. I had a 2004 GS for a while but hated that thing. Off road my ***. :-) A GS is just an R with mudgrips as far as I'm concerned.

We'll get our butts kicked for chatting this topic in this forum. If you want to continue the conversation email me at thru-traffic@morgansweb.com.
