I have a '75 F-100 4x4 frame that had a 360/C6/NP203. I am wanting to swap in a 5.0 HO/AOD/NP203 or NP205 if I can find one. The 5.0 HO is from a 1992 Thunderbird and is still in the car. I have read that I need to swap motor mounts. In my picture link below I have green circles around some brackets, are these the mounts that need changed? And will the rubber pieces on the 5.0 block from the t-bird work or do they need swapped out too? Thanks.
Those are the engine stands or perches. Yes, they need to be swapped for some that come from a small block or 6-cyl truck (find a donor truck to 1979). Then the rubber motor mounts attached to the engine will drop into place on them. Don't waste time on the 5.0, rebuild that 360 up to a 390 and hold on...
I agree with Mike, stroke and overbore the original engine and save yourself the hassle of all the changes you have to make to the 5.0, frame, etc.
BTW, the 5.0 is fuel injected, so either you have to replace the EFI with an intake and a carb (more $$$) or slap in the EFI and reroute all those wires to fit into your truck.
EFI will give you better mileage and reliability, unless you are a carb wizard.
Just another quick question, are the towers the same for a 2x4 and 4x4 truck?
I would have kept the 360 if it was in better condition, but I don't think it was rebuildable. It sat outside for a long time uncovered and had water in the block up to the bottom of the pistons. The area were the lifters go looked pretty bad also. The transmission bellhousing was cracked too. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...6-12-05005.jpg
I don't know anything at all about carbs, and would really like to have fuel injection and an OD transmission. I like the dependability of fuel injection and the easy cold weather starting. I already have the 302 and transmission so it's just a matter of swapping them in. I plan to use the gas tank from the donor car and mount it in the bed. The truck will see mostly highway miles, have about 9" of lift, and run some 35's with 4.10 or 4.56 gears. I may put in a divorced 205 so I can use the 2wd transmission as it is without a tailshaft swap. I have drove underpowered trucks my whole life, so I'm used to small motors. Here is the 5.0 and the donor car. It has about 79,000 miles on it. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...y/KIF_0654.jpg
well if you go that route go here for a wiring harness www.fordfuelinjection.com then look into getting an efi truck intake for that vs the ho intake. because that motor came out of a car it was built for hi rpm power which isnt the way to go for a truck.
it will require a different cam for sure but keep the mass air for sure.
