I am haveing big probs with my cooling system... Ok it really weird. I can start my truck cold, let it warm up.. takes like 10 min. Finaly runs alright and evens out, temp reads C and if I just let it idle it slowly goes up till a little past half, I step on the gas a little and it goes down. I shut it off let it sit for about 20 min. Start it back up runs fine nice and smooth and even... and I let it idle again the temp goes up and if I just let it go without driveing it or bringing the idle up so the fan cools everything off it will spit a bunch of watter out the overflow, I was told by somone on here that there may be air in the lines so I left the radiator cap off and got all of the air out. This was replaced - thermostat , waterpump , and it has a radiator from a ford van in it, bigger than normal. I am thinking maybe. Since the PO bought the waterpump and thermostat together befor finding out that he had a major leak in the radiator, so he bought the larger than normal radiator and the thermostat is to high a tempurature or is it to low a tempurature? What is my trucks problem?
What temp thermostat do you have? 180degrees is about right. If you have fan clutch, make sure it ingages. If the clutch is dirty cause of leaking fluid, you need a new one. Check belt tension for the water pump. Is the radiator new? or used new. Should be at least a 3 row. Drive the truck, on the high way, and pull over. If you feel any cool spots areas on the radiator, then you have a restriction in it
Racer,
I need some more details.
1. Will the truck overheat if you drive on the highway? How long?
2. Will it overheat in the city? How long?
3. What kind of motor/transmission do you have?
4. Do you have headers?
Get back to me.

I drove it for 4 hrs on the freeway had problems but not with the cooling system , and also It was about 0 deg. It is a used radiator, and it is oversized, it came out of a ford van... not sure what year? The engine is a 302 and I have no idea what the tranny is... I know its stock. Its a 77-F100. No headers, but it does have a chery bomb exhaust. Also how can I tell how many rows are in my radiator? And how can I tell if my radiator is pluged?
