What happened??? The Malibu has morphed into a mess!!!! I always liked those cars, they were never too bold, never too dull, kind of sporty and stylish, even over the years, Chevy kept the line looking good.
The last week or two I have been seeing this ugly-looking four door "thing" with a strange back-end. The car is not sleek, but boxy..it has terrible lines, and looks like something off the 1933 Volkswagen producton line in facist Germany. The car is butt-ugly, and people are buying them, unless it is just that the rental car companies are using them.
Am I seeing things or did Chevy really turn the malibu into a funky looking, odd car?
I think you spotted the malibu Maxx. Chevy's five door "sedan" I agree its quite awkward in the rear. They also have the regular Malibu, with just 4 doors. I think the 4 door is an ok looking car, nothing special about it, nor is it very exciting to drive, but its competent in most aspects and is priced very competitively in its class even without GM's employee discount. Heres a pic of the four door
You know you are in trouble as a auto manufacturer when the Malibu Maxx commericals pimp the rear DVD player for the kids.
Who cares. Give me a car that I'd be proud to buy. F*** gimmicky crap. If it is ugly enough to turn Lot into a pillar of salt....ah, you get the point.
Once again, what people will buy to feel good about themselves. Buy America. How about not buying Asstek siblings and forcing the manufacturer to IMPROVE on its design and fire the design studio scrubs??? A family car does NOT have to be BORING, either! RWD would help, though.
Oh, my stepdad has seen ad pics of the new Chevelle that is supposed to be on the way. A designer must have stayed off the pipe for a while! Especially, since everything I googled about this alleged gem has been quite positive.

The Maxx reveals just how close it's bloodlines are to the Opel Vectra, which sports the same bodystyle. Hatchbacks are quite popular in Europe (they sell a Hatchback and Wagon version of the Accord over there, made in Ohio, no less). It looks goofy, but offers an amazing amount of back seat room. there's a "SS" version around the corner that should improve the aesthetics a bit.
You think the Maxx is strange- just imagine the reaction of European Saab shoppers when they first saw Saabs new line of SUV's!
my friend just picked up a '80 malibu. we've been working on it for 2 weeks now. putting in a slightly worked 355, turbo 350 tranny with 2200 stall, fuel cell in the trunk, electric fuel pump, battery relocated to the trunk, fiberglass cowl hood, and converting it to manual steering and some other goodies.
