I was just wondering if I'm doing any major damage running with a cracked exhaust manifold. I was told that I might ruin a cylinder with uneven heating/cooling where the crack is. There's a broken stud that needs to be drilled out. (There'll probably be more, when all is said and done.) I've got a repair lined up; just can't get it done for the next three weeks. (Short on $.) Should I replace the exhaust manifold on both sides, or can I just do the one?
I don't think a crack in your exhaust manifold is going to damage the engine and there is no reason to replace both if only one is cracked. This might be a good time, however, to consider headers as long as you have to remove one of them anyhow. I would also suggest that you spray on some PB Blaster or equivalent penetrating oil for a few days before you start reefing on those stubborn manifold bolts. Good luck.

I've been spraying the Blaster and it's helping. I've been wondering about headers. It's a '69 F250 Ranger, CS. I've got a rear tank, left side of the bed. I've gotten some ideas about running the headers with a fabbed trans cross member. I'm just not sure what to do after that. The previous owner had duals installed, only there's a muffler under the cab, under the driver's seat. It's just not right. I want to keep the rear tank. Any ideas?
i run dual's on my 69 f250. the left pipe come's over to the right side and they both run down side by side with glass pack's. look's good and sounds good also.make sure you resurface the manifold's before you put them back on. i used stainless bolt's on mine.it too has dual tank's.
If you have broken bolts in the heads you will need to drill these and tap them. I did my 68 F-350 by pulling the heads, no cherrypicker around and it took about 12 hours of work. My 66 2wd my sons andI pilled the engine , did the repairs on the heads, exhaust pipes and changed to coolat lines and replaced the engine in 8 hours. much more ezer than pulling the heads and cost less.
