E4OD Transmission

Can someone please tell me the difference between the 2WD and 4WD versions of the E4OD transmission, if there is any? Thanks.

Internals? or in general? The output shaft should be different.

I need to know if one from a 2WD will work in a 4WD. I need one for my 90 F-250 and a friend has one from a 2WD and I wanted to know if it will fit and what is involved in making it fit. Thanks.

AFAIK they won't interchange. They have different tailshafts and I'm not sure if you can interchange the tailshafts to make it work.

Pretty sure you can change the tailshaft, but the whole transmission has to come apart.

I agree with vman. It is possible but I think the whole transmission is going to come apart to switch out the tailshaft. If you have to do that you should just rebuild yours. Another problem might be the gear ratios. I am not sure if they are different between the 2wd and 4wd. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
