I'm building a carbed 300 with the EFI fast burn combustion chamber head. In order to optimize the quench of the engine, I'm trying to determine a few specs before I tear into the engine.
1) What is the distance from the piston to the deck at TCD for stock 300's, and are they the same for the carbed and EFI variants?
2) Do the 80' carbed pistons have the same pin to crown distance as the EFI pistons?
You can find the answers to most of those questions at www.kb-silvolite.com . There are lots of pistons available for the 300. I am planning to use an off the shelf piston from an earlier modle to get about 10:1 on my EFI engine.
Silver Streak - I searched the site and didnt see any pistons specific to the 300. Am I missing them or are you talking about using pistons from other engines?
edit - whoops I was looking under the KB piston section. Looked under the Silvolite section and found many sets. sorry
As far as quench, run about .035 to .040" clearence. This will improve the burn efficiency, and reduce the tendency for detenation. I would also select a piston that mirriors the combustion chamber for the best possible burn.
