rear end allignment to frame
Just got an Eaton 2-sp rear end from Chucks Trucks!
Replacing the single sp 6.66 rear.
Is the a proper "allignment precedure" to ensure the axle is prependicular to the frame?
Thanks
Reamer
Also got two front fenders (upper and lower) Clean on the inside!
All the 2-sp pipes and controls/switches.
Complete Original Power brake set-up
239 V-8 with only 7200 miles on it, (20lbs of oil pressure idleing at 400 rpm for an hour) 50 lbs normal running, no smoke!
Battery tray, driveshaft, t-98 syncroed 4 sp, new F-6 rear leaf springs/bushings. and other goodies!
Chuck even helped removing and loading all the parts with me.
Cool!
You'll have to refresh my memory....I have a 6.80 rear end in my F-600. I am also lookinf gor a 2 speed rear end for it. I need the one with the 5.83 high range. Any ideas?
btw, making sure it's perpendicular is a start....but that's only if the front is too!
Is there anyone out there with an F5 or F6 2 speed rearend that they want to part with ?
Regards,
Rick

are you hanging it from existing springs or putting in new springs/hangers and all ???
if you're doing it from scratch....I'd think simple measuring would do it... measure from the axle c.l. at the front end back to the rear end and establish your wheel base and center punch it on the side of the frame rails... establish the center line of the frame side to side and punch it on the cross member...
then some plumb bobs and string and a framing square should do it... calculate in your offset if any.... mark where the spring hangers will be if not there already.
If you're only trying to square up the rearend on the springs a couple of measurements from a known common point on each side to the axle c/l and you're good to go...
that should at least get you in the ball park ??
there are some specs on my page that might help you look down toward the bottom for the big truck stuff..
